I believe that a touch of the unreal can help us better understand our fellow human beings, and that's why I explore fantasy, folklore, and metaphor in my paintings and site-specific installations. So many of the stories we were brought up with from childhood still deeply resonate with our current selves, and our empathy is inspired when we see those stories play out in front of our eyes.

In addition to my own work, I design book covers for independent science fiction and fantasy authors. Send me an email at jack@redmarkermedia.com if you'd like a quote for your project!

Hi there! How are things going here? ^^
I was going to do some interpretations but felt a bit tired to really write any today so I ended up just visiting people here and there, giving my greetings on DA. :)

I eventually interpreted after all. The most challenging pic I gave myself to interpret was kawaii style art. XD Oh man...I was so not used this cutesy art style, I had the most difficult moment of really studying it just now. I was afraid I'd get cavities from all the sweetness! XD Oh man...lol! But I bared with it, and studied it and interpreted for an artist who had been going through some tough times. I wanted to reach out and cheer her up with an interpretation so she can feel encourage to keep her dreams alive. It was a double meme of her character and her boyfriend. Very cute and funny. But man, it was hard to interpret, but I've managed. XD

Part of the fun and challenge of interpretation is being able to venture outside of my comfort zone to interpret other genres. In doing so, I learn much about the appeal of a certain genre or style, and also appreciate it for what it is. Kawaii, abstract, and photography, are one of the most challenging medias I've ever interpreted. Oh and nude photography especially, cause my face literally turns red and my friends tend to tease me. And I'd have to explain that I'm interpreting art to understand the meaning of the concept. But most of the time I get, "Sure you are" for a reply. Oh brother...XD

But as an artist, I've learned to keep an open mind. The art world is limitless with possibilities. And also teaches the extent and depths of our imagination. I'm not sure I'd be ready to interpret horror/macebre. Or however it is spelled. Gorey art, I can't really stomach it, mostly cause of my vivid imagination. I really put myself into the world of art, which is a fun blessing, but in darker realms a bit of a curse. XD One day, I'll find the courage to venture there, but it won't be anytime soon. One time I interpreted a photo of a girls mouth with hair in it and it made me gag in mid interpretation. When I was done, I stood over the bathroom wanting to throw up. XD Oh man...why did I even recall this...XD

Anyway, that's the experience of my interpreting art trek adventure. XD

Macabre, yes. I think it's fair to stay away from that—the artist creates it for the people who enjoy looking at it, so if it disturbs you (in a bad way), there's no point spending time looking at it.

I think that the skills you're developing in interpreting art are valuable, but keep in mind that there are usually multiple interpretations of a piece of artwork, and other people's interpretations are valid, too! It might be a good idea to pick up some art magazines and read what other people have to say, as well. :)

Hi there! I had to drop by and see how you've been. ^^
I've been busy with my seasonal job with the Salvation Army as a bell Ringer.
Though I don't have as much time at the moment, like I used to, it's been
challenging to keep up with everyone here. XD

Since my consistency in sharing interpretations, I've been gaining more watchers. I almost feared
that I'd stretch myself thin. I found myself all over the place, but I do enjoy the experience of
every creative worlds I've visited here on DA.

Say have you seen this documentary on CNN called "Ivory Tower"? It was very interesting and explained allot about what we went through as college students. The trailer is on you tube, but I don't know if the actual documentary had been downloaded yet. ^^

Cool, thanks for letting me know about the Ivory Tower documentary! I'll check it out.

I hear you with busyness. I'm doing a lot of website work at the moment, and I'm temping next week, so I feel kind of swamped.

Thanks for checking in! I'm glad that participating more at DA through the interpretations has been working for you. :)
